Backhaul is the connection each mesh node uses to talk back to the main router, and it's the single biggest factor in whether a mesh system actually helps your streaming setup or just adds another point of failure. Wireless backhaul means the nodes communicate over the air, using some of the same radio spectrum your devices use — which sounds convenient but eats into the bandwidth available for everything else, especially on cheaper tri-band or dual-band kits.

A mesh system is only as good as where you put the nodes, and the instinct to spread them evenly around the house often works against the room that matters most — the one with the TV. The main node should connect directly to your modem, and each satellite node needs a strong-enough signal from its neighbor to actually forward decent bandwidth rather than just extending a weak one further.
A rough guide: place a node within one or two rooms of the streaming device, avoid tucking it inside a cabinet or behind a TV where metal and glass block the signal, and keep it elevated rather than on the floor. If a single room still buffers after mesh is installed and positioned reasonably well, that's usually a sign the fix is a wired connection to that specific device rather than another mesh node.
