The EPG (electronic program guide) is what turns a raw channel list into something that feels like real TV — here's how to get it working.
View Plans & OrderIf you log in using Xtream Codes API, the EPG loads automatically in most apps (TiviMate, Hot Player) — no extra steps needed.
If you're using a bare M3U URL, you may need to add the EPG URL separately in your app's settings. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll send you the EPG link along with instructions for your specific app.
An EPG isn't stored inside your IPTV app — it's pulled from an external XMLTV file that lists program titles, descriptions, start and end times for every channel. Your player fetches this file (often called an XMLTV or EPG URL) separately from the stream list, then matches each program block to the correct channel using a channel ID. That matching step is where most guide problems start: if a channel's ID in the playlist doesn't line up with the ID used in the XMLTV file, that channel shows no guide data even though the stream itself works fine.
This is also why the guide can update on its own schedule, independent of your channel list. Some players refresh EPG data every few hours automatically; others only pull a new copy when you force a manual refresh in settings.
A blank or "No Program Information" guide entry almost never means the channel is broken. It usually means one of three things: the channel ID mismatch described above, the source feed for that specific channel not including EPG metadata at all, or a temporary gap while the guide source refreshes. Regional and smaller channels are more likely to have incomplete listings than major networks, simply because building and maintaining accurate program data takes ongoing work on the provider side.
Before assuming something is wrong with your setup, check whether the issue is isolated to one or two channels or affects the entire guide. A guide that's empty across every channel points to a setup or connectivity issue; a handful of channels missing data is normal and often resolves on its own within a day.
EPG data is typically distributed in UTC and then converted to local time by your player app using your device's timezone setting. If your device clock or timezone is set incorrectly — a common issue after traveling or on devices that don't sync time automatically — every program listed in the guide will appear shifted by a fixed number of hours, even though the underlying data is accurate.
Some players also let you set a manual UTC offset inside the app itself, separate from the device's system clock. If you've changed that setting at some point and forgotten about it, it can silently override the correct time and cause the same shifted-guide symptom. Checking both the device timezone and any in-app offset setting resolves the vast majority of "wrong time" complaints.
The number of days an EPG covers depends on the source feed, not on your player or your subscription tier. Some sources provide a rolling 24-48 hours of listings, while others push out a full 7 to 14 days in advance. This is worth knowing because it explains why a program you're trying to set a reminder for three days out might simply not exist in the guide yet — it isn't that the feature is broken, it's that the data hasn't been published that far ahead.
If deep advance listings matter to you (for reminders or planning around sports schedules), check your player's EPG settings for how many days of data it's set to cache, since some apps let you adjust this within the limits of what the source actually provides.
Not every IPTV player handles EPG the same way, even when pointed at the identical XMLTV source. Some render a full grid view you can scroll through, others only show "now and next" for each channel, and a few barely support EPG at all. If a functioning guide matters to you, it's worth checking your player's capabilities before assuming a data problem.
See the device guides section for setup specifics across different players and platforms.
This usually means the live stream and the EPG feed are out of sync — the channel itself is airing content on schedule, but the guide's timestamps were built from a slightly different schedule version, or there's a short delay in your stream versus the broadcast feed the EPG was generated from. It typically corrects itself within one guide refresh cycle.
No. The guide is a separate text-based data file loaded independently from the video stream, so fetching or refreshing EPG data has no effect on picture quality, buffering, or bandwidth used by the actual channel you're watching.
Yes, most players that support a manual EPG URL field let you point to any valid XMLTV source independently of your channel list, as long as the channel IDs in that source match the IDs in your playlist. Mismatched IDs are the most common reason a swapped-in EPG source shows no data.
App updates sometimes reset EPG settings, including manually entered EPG URLs or refresh intervals, back to defaults. Check your player's playlist or EPG settings after any update to confirm the guide URL is still saved correctly.
Yes, if you use multiple apps or devices, each one loads and stores its own EPG configuration separately. Setting up the guide on one device doesn't carry over to another, even if both are using the same underlying playlist.
