If catch-up matters to you, it's worth checking your chosen app's settings menu specifically rather than assuming the feature is missing.
If more than one person in your household uses the same subscription, how an app handles multiple connections matters. Some apps let you save several playlist profiles locally and switch between them instantly — useful if different family members want different channel orders or favorites lists. Others tie everything to a single active session, which can cause a "stream already in use" type error if two devices try to play at once. That behavior is set by the subscription's simultaneous-stream limit, not by the app, but the app determines how clearly it communicates the conflict when it happens.
Favorites and channel-sorting also don't sync across apps. If you switch from one player to another, you'll rebuild your favorites list from scratch, since that data lives locally on the device rather than with the subscription.
The best app on paper isn't always the best app for your hardware. Older Android boxes and budget Fire TV Sticks have limited RAM, and a feature-heavy app with a lot of background processes can cause more buffering than a lighter one, even on an identical connection. Before assuming a slow stream is a network issue, it's worth testing the same playlist in a second, simpler app to isolate the cause.
