EPG Not Loading? Here's How to Fix It

Troubleshooting · Updated May 2026

A missing or blank EPG is almost always a login-method or refresh issue, not a broken subscription.

Confirm You're Using Xtream Codes

EPG loads automatically with Xtream Codes login. If you're on a bare M3U playlist instead, the EPG URL needs to be added separately — see our EPG guide.

Force Refresh the Playlist

Most apps have a manual "refresh" or "update" option for the playlist and EPG data — a stale local cache is a common, easily fixed cause.

Give It Time After a Fresh Login

EPG data can take a few minutes to populate fully after first logging in, especially on a large channel list — worth waiting before assuming something's broken.

What the EPG Actually Is (and Why It Loads Separately From Live TV)

The Electronic Program Guide is not part of the video stream itself. It is a separate data feed — usually formatted as XMLTV — that your player downloads on its own schedule and matches against channel IDs to build the grid of show times you see. This is why you can sometimes watch a channel perfectly fine while its guide data shows blank rows or "no information available": the stream and the guide are two independent systems that happen to share a screen.

Because the EPG is a separate download, anything that interrupts that specific request — a slow connection at the moment the app fetches it, a firewall blocking the guide URL, or the app simply not being configured to pull EPG data at all — will leave live TV working normally while the guide stays empty.

Playback Problem vs. Guide Problem: How to Tell the Difference

Before troubleshooting further, isolate whether the issue is really about the EPG or about something else being mistaken for it. Tune into a few channels directly and confirm the video and audio play normally. If streams play fine but the on-screen guide grid is empty or frozen on old data, the problem is isolated to EPG delivery or parsing — not your connection or subscription.

Treating these as the same problem wastes time — clearing an app's cache won't fix a network issue, and restarting your router won't fix a mismatched EPG timezone.

Timezone and Channel Mapping Mismatches

A guide that loads but shows the wrong show at the wrong time is usually not a loading failure at all — it's a mismatch between the timezone the EPG data was published in and the timezone your device or app is set to. Some IPTV apps let you set the EPG timezone offset manually in settings; if program listings look shifted by a consistent number of hours, check that setting before assuming the data itself is broken.

A related issue is channel mapping: EPG providers identify channels by an internal ID, and if your player's channel list doesn't line up correctly with those IDs, you'll see guide data for the wrong channel, or none at all for channels that otherwise stream fine. This is more common after a playlist update adds or reorders channels, since the app has to rebuild those ID associations.

App-Specific EPG Settings Worth Checking

Not every IPTV player handles EPG the same way, and the default settings vary more than most people expect. Some apps only fetch guide data on a fixed interval (for example, once every 12 or 24 hours) rather than on every app launch, so a guide that looks stuck may simply be waiting for its next scheduled update. Others require you to manually enable an EPG source or paste in an EPG URL separately from your playlist, and if that field was left blank during setup, no guide data will ever load no matter how many times you refresh.

It's worth checking your specific app's settings menu for an EPG or "guide source" section, since the fix is often as simple as an option that was never turned on. For setup steps by device, see the device guides section.
